Personality and Temperament

Balinese cats share the same loving and social personality traits as Siamese cats. They are intelligent, affectionate, and deeply connected to their families.

Like Siamese cats, Balinese are very people-oriented and enjoy being involved in everyday household activities. Many families describe them as having dog-like personalities because they often run to greet their owners when they arrive home and enjoy interactive games such as fetch.

Balinese cats are curious, playful, and thrive in environments where they can interact with their families. Their affectionate nature makes them wonderful companions for individuals, couples, and families with children.

Coat and Appearance

The main difference between Siamese and Balinese cats is the coat length. Balinese cats carry a recessive long-hair gene that produces a soft, silky coat that flows naturally along the body.

Balinese coats range from medium-long to long and typically reach their full length at around one year of age. Despite their longer coat, Balinese cats generally require minimal grooming compared to many other long-haired breeds.

Shedding in our cats is typically minimal and varies depending on genetics. Many people are surprised to learn that a longer coat does not necessarily mean heavier shedding.

Hypoallergenic Qualities

Balinese cats are often considered one of the more hypoallergenic cat breeds. While no cat is completely allergy-free, many people with mild cat allergies find they tolerate Balinese cats better than other breeds.

This is believed to be related to lower levels of the Fel-d1 protein, which is the primary allergen produced by cats. Because of this, many families who are concerned about allergies specifically inquire about Balinese kittens.

Their soft coat and affectionate personality often encourage owners to spend hours petting and interacting with them.

Unique Breeding Development

At Supreme Cattery, we are currently working on developing a mink lynx point Balinese line. This project involves carefully introducing genetics from our male Mink Bengal, who carries two copies of the Burmese gene.

Because Burmese cats belong to the same color-point genetic family, this combination allows us to work toward creating a unique blend of traits. The goal is to combine the luxurious coat and affectionate personality of the Balinese with the striking beauty and confident temperament often associated with Bengals.

Interestingly, this development began unexpectedly when one of our Balinese queens became accidentally pregnant by our first male Bengal kitten. While we initially believed this would be a setback, the resulting kittens turned out to be incredibly beautiful with wonderful personalities.

This experience encouraged us to continue exploring this genetic combination, and we hope to develop a long-haired version of this unique blend in the future.

Balinese Kittens as Family Pets

Balinese kittens make wonderful family pets due to their affectionate personalities and social nature. They enjoy interacting with their families and often thrive in homes where they receive regular attention and companionship.

Like all kittens raised at Supreme Cattery, Balinese kittens are active, playful, and curious. They benefit from interactive play and enrichment during kittenhood, and many families choose to adopt two kittens together so they can grow up with a companion.

However, Balinese kittens also adapt very well when joining a home that already has a resident cat.
